International eHealth Conference "Have an eExperience in Tallinn!"
The Conference is organized by the Estonian eHealth Foundation and intends to bring together the Eastern and Western Europe’s industry leaders and experts from public and private sectors, senior government representatives, clinicians and IT companies for education and collaboration. During the conference, an overview of problems and successes related to the implementation of the National Health Information System will be provided. Tallinn eHealth Conference also provides a unique opportunity to take part in many interesting sessions and site visits to innovative Estonian companies who have been important partners during the Estonian National Health Information System implementation process.

On October 15th instead of a usual conference day there will be a day trip to eEstonia where delegates can participate in practical Expert Workshops on various eHealth topics. During the workshops delegates will have good insight into the Estonian Electronic Health Record system which is globally unique. The Estonian Electronic Health Record system encompasses the whole country, registers virtually all residents’ medical history from birth to death, and is based on the comprehensive state-developed nationwide technical infrastructure called the X-Road platform.
The most innovative technological aspect is that implementation of the EHR system does not cause massive re-engineering of the existing in-house information systems and communication infrastructure, which are just integrated (“linked”) by special system modules.
One of the key factors when implementing the system has also been the enforcement of the national laws for collection and exchange of personal medical data. Today the system that was launched in December 2008 contains over 1,8 mln medical documents belonging to 357 910 persons among the 1,3 mln population.
