Ambient Assisted Living Forum (AAL Forum) 2010

The AAL Forum 2010 is organized between the City of Odense, the Region of Southern Denmark, The Public Welfare Technology Foundation, the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and the AAL Joint Programme. This year the AAL Forum focuses on presenting innovative solutions to tackle the challenges inherent to our ageing societies. It aims to provide both a physical meeting platform, supported by an advanced web 2.0 social media platform for all stakeholders – investors, researchers, policy makers, industry providers and end-users – to discuss and share smart solutions for a improved quality of life in later years.

Ambient Assisted Living Technology is a relatively new and vibrant field of investment, research and development. Policy makers are already exploring options and planning on future technology investments in this area. Several regional and national initiatives are emerging around Europe to support public and private investment.  Furthermore, research within the field is growing, as more and more projects throughout Europe and the rest of the world is rapidly increasing.

Track A: Market, Economy, Innovation

In this track AAL-markets are assessed and ways are discussed to improve market attractiveness for ICT based solutions supporting autonomy of the elderly. The sessions are:

  • Quality aspects of AAL interventions
  • Meeting the challenge of demographic change on a economic perspective

Track B: Exploring the model of innovation through user engagement

In this track the topic of end user engagement and the ethical implications of are explored. The development and successful mainstreaming of ambient assisted living solutions is underpinned by the design, desirability, user-friendliness and non-stigmatization of the innovations for older people. It is imperative to engage end users and their networks in different stages of the innovation process. 'Why' and 'how' are the questions this track aims to answer.
The sessions are:
  • New models of innovation
  • Research/methodologies/frameworks for user engagement
  • Supporting the participation of end users in designing solutions
  • Exploring the views of users, their needs and images of ageing


Track C: AAL Joint Programme: Topics and Basics

One aspect of track C "AAL Joint Programme: Topics and Basics" is to offer to the AAL Community and various groups of stakeholders an opportunity at the AAL Forum to take part in the preparation of future call topics. The most important core elements of the AAL Joint Programme, beginning with specific user needs, will be discussed. The results of the sessions will be integral to the further development of the programme. The topics to be discussed in the sessions are the following:
  • Information/Learning/user interfaces
  • Mobility
  • Home Care (informal and professional care)
  • Supply with goods and chores (home centred every day services)
  • Safety and security/privacy
  •  

Track E: AAL - The Viking way

The aims of the session are to present:
  • The special features of the Scandinavian welfare model, the role of the public sector in providing care services, the potential and barriers of public private co-operation and innovation in the field of AAL.
  • Relevant national, interregional and regional strategies and programmes for AAL in the Scandinavian context.
  • Projects, business cases, new methodologies and relevant areas of competence for strengthening the development and use of AAL-technologies.
  • The role of users and employees in AAL


Track R: Robotics

The Robotics track will focus on presenting technological solutions based on a broad spectrum of robotic technologies that have been developed to a stage where practical experiments, and tests in real-world environments have been carried out, and where valuable experience on the application of robotic solutions in an AAL context have been accumulated. The topics of the sessions are:
  • The Map of the World of Robotics applied in AAL contexts (a comparison between USA, Europe and Asian approaches, policies, etc.)
  • Rehabilitation, Training and Assistive Technologies in AAL applications
  • Tele-robotics, Logistics, Home- and Personal Services
  • Human-Robot & Intuitive Interaction, Social Robots, Ethics
